They should go to Massimo’s while they’re at it! These old school Fremont restaurants are seriously due for overhauls.

The owner at Spin-a-Yarn is a nice guy (at least to us) and the food is pretty good, although most dishes aren’t memorable. The restaurant has charm, but it is definitely overdue for an update. I hope it goes well and Saki ends up with a restaurant that becomes a new go-to place in Fremont.

Never been to the restaurant. All I know is that our friends were supposed to have their wedding reception there that evening and it got cancelled because of filming.

Love Saki’s Spin-a-Yarn! It’s my family’s go-to restaurant in Fremont! It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of Kitchen Nightmares.

This place is definitely a Kitchen Nightmare restaurant. I’m Italian, born in Italy, this people doesn’t know what is italian food. I went there only once and never put my feet again, who is happy with this restaurant should reconsider himself about food. This is not a good restaurant period. Hopefully Chef Ramsey will fix this place.

?????? If you are Italian you should have been able to quickly identify that this is not an Italian restaurant. It’s Greek Mediterranean.

    • October 3, 2011 5:36 PM

Saki is Greek. They have a few Italian dishes on the menu, but Massimo’s is the old-school Italian place. Maybe you’re confused.

I think this is why Spin-A-Yarn was on the show. They didn’t know what kind of restaurant they were, Italian, Greek, Steakhouse, etc. Hopefully Chef Ramsey will help streamline their menu and find their direction.

I love Saki, and was a long time Spin-A-Yarn customer… even had my first kiss in that small parking lot… but the food, and the decor are in deep need of an overhaul. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving owner, and long time Fremont resident/businessman

Dinner at Spin a Yarn has sorta faded out the last couple years. It used to be the place to go back in the day. Service can sure use some improving. The owner is a nice guy, who deserves some change. I would love to be on the show.

We had a large group with reservations for dinner. And they sat us outside in December, and it was freezing! Literally 32 degrees outside. Hard to believe, but true.

Exec’s from back east flew in to interview me for a job. I told them we could meet at a nice local restaurant… Spin a Yarn. They liked the restaurant and me, that was 8 1/2 years ago and still with the same company! have to love them for that.

Good luck with Gordon, a real terror but brilliant! hope everything works out

My parent’s had their wedding reception there 29 years ago and I think I’ve been there 3 times since. We’ve had work events there and they’ve been great to us. I can’t seem to remember the food, however…
So excited this is happening in our neck of the woods. Looking forward to the change!

Hope they were nice to Saki, he’s a good guy, but it seems like there always has to be an episode moment where Gordon screams and uses the f word a few times and makes some nice guy in the kitchen crumble like a cookie.

A few of the San Jose Sharks players tweeted about going to meet Gordon Ramsay so I’m assuming they’re gonna be on the episode, too.

Despite the dramatics of the show’s title, Gordon is first invited by the owners to help them save their restaurant.

And despite the drama during an episode, he is most often on the side of the owner, really wanting to help and to make things right. OpEd: I like this show more than the other one where he yells at aspiring chefs for a whole season.

We will post again when we know the air date. Fear not.

I never heard of the place until we got a call from them wanting a new sign for the show.. Fremont Fastsigns pulled an all nighter to get the sign done for the filming. And damn my back hurt after being in the boom truck all night installing it! Can’t wait to see the episode though!

I’ve been going to Spin The Yarn for 20 years and I remember when Saki took it over. The first time I went after he took over, he introduced himself to me and I told him I’m a regular and he said that was great and I’ve have come to know him well. I remember when his wife Jennifer started there as the bartender. At first she was a little slow but once she learn she was and is still great and very attractive may I add. It was great when Saki and Jennifer fell in love and got married. When I heard Gordon Ramsey was coming I was surprised because I though the food was always good. But now its even better with the new menu. Spin The Yarn is a great place to go and I get there 3 times a week. I used to live in Fremont but I had to move to Oakland for job reasons but since I live in dowtown Oakland, I just hop the BART train get off at Fremont and walk to it which is not far. After a meal and numerous drinks, just stagger back to the BART, hop the train [EDIT: Spin A Yarn is not near BART] back to Oakland and the station is 1/2 a block to my place.

Watching the show now and thinking this poor guy is stuck with a rude sassy teen step daughter and a silly blaming lazy witch for a wife. Spoiled, lazy, and entitled. Oh Lordy, give me a break! Chef Gordon, good luck with this one! Good luck Saki!

Bobby K, isn’t it about 5 miles from Fremont BART to Spin A Yarn? That must take at least 90 minutes each way to walk it.

Man, can I just say that Saki seems like a nice guy but his wife accepts no responsibility. She doesn’t help herself or the situation acting like that. Come on, $950K on a redesign??
